Extraplantary Launchpads

Launch rockets from other planets and moons!

Overview

You’ve flown to other planets, and started a colony on, say, Duna. You’ve even made the base self-sustaining – via Kethane, perhaps – and then one day you come in a little too fast for the landing and break your lander. What to do? Or, perhaps you have a new vehicle you want to launch from your Tylo colony, but don’t want to wait seven months for a transfer window. The answer to both these problems has, so far, been either to send a new rocket up from Kerbin (and in the latter case, just wait) or to use an unrealistic plugin like Hyperedit.

But what if you could set up another Space Center at your colony and build the ships there?

Extraplanetary Space Centers is here to allow that! With this mod, you can build your ships at your colonies – never even having to visit the Kerbin launch pad!

ORE MINING IS (CURRENTLY) INCOMPATIBLE WITH STOCK KETHANE.DLL. You can still mine Kethane with the version provided here. I have been given permission by Majiir to redistribute this modified version of Kethane until multiple resources is added to Kethane core.

Addon Installation Guide

 

How to install Addons in KSP:

Installing addons in KSP is as simple as moving files into their appropriate folders. This guide explains which folders hold each type of addon, and how to locate them. Keep in mind that Addon packages may contain any combination of addon types. These instructions are meant only as a generic guide.

 

Finding the KSP Main Folder.

The first step to installing an addon is to locate the KSP folder in your computer. This is where KSP keeps all of its files, including your game saves and screenshots. The KSP folder is located where you unzipped it when you first downloaded the game.

The KSP Folder contains the following subfolders:

NOTE: On OSX, the KSP_Data folder does not exist. (Its equivalent lives inside the App package)

 

Installing Part Addons

Parts are all contained inside KSP/Parts. Each part has its own subfolder in the Parts folder:

To install new parts, extract the part folders from the downloaded package into the KSP/Parts folder.

 

Installing Craft Addons

Craft files are saved ships created in the game. These files can be placed in a few different folders:

KSP/Ships

In KSP/Ships, you will find separate subfolders for the different construction facilities in the game. The VAB folder, for instance, holds craft files that are editable on the Vehicle Assembly Building in game, and launched from a Launch Pad. Similarly, the SPH folder holds craft files that are editable in the Spaceplane Hangar Facility, and launched from the Runway.

Craft files placed in a subfolder of KSP/Ships will be available to all saved games. Ships placed here are considered to be "Stock",. They won´t be overwritten directly if edited, and cannot be deleted from inside the game.

KSP/saves/"playername"/Ships

It is also possible to make craft files available to only one saved game:

Each game started creates its own folder in KSP/Saves. Each save has its own Ships folder, which is organized in the same way as the common Ships folder above. Craft files placed in one of the subfolders are only visible when playing the corresponding game, and can be overwritten and deleted. Ships created while playing the corresponding game are also saved in these folders.

 

Installing Scenarios and Training Addons

The KSP/Saves folder contains the training and scenarios subfolders. SFS files in the training subfolder are listed in the Training section of the Main Menu in the game, and files in the scenarios subfolder are visible in the Scenarios section of the menu.

To install scenarios and training missions, extract the SFS files from the downloaded package into the appropriate subfolder.

 

Installing Plugins

The KSP/Plugins folder holds the DLL files for plugin-powered addons. These plugins extend the funcionality of the game, adding new part types, or new missions.

To install a plugin, extract the DLL files from the downloaded package into the KSP/Plugins folder.

 

Installing Internal Models

Some addons add new internal spaces and objects. Those are installed in the KSP/Internals folder.

Props

Props are objects that can be added into internal spaces, like cockpit gauges or cabin decorations. Each internal prop has its own folder in KSP/Internals/Props:

Spaces are the internal models that are associated with parts. Each internal space has its own folder in KSP/Internals/Spaces:

 

To install internal props and spaces, extract the folders from the downloaded package into the appropriate subfolder.

 

 

How to use

Land a launchpad or runway on planet of your choice. Right click it, select "load ship", and load the ship you want to launch. By default, both the launchpad and runway are in "debug mode"; they do not require any resources to function. If you want a more realistic gameplay experience, change the line "debug = true" to "debug = false" in the part.cfg. Now you will need sufficient fuel, monopropellant and electricity to build a rocket, as well as enough rocket parts. Rocket parts can be built in the Rocket Workshop out of Metal; Metal can be smelted out of Ore in the Smelter; and Ore can be mined, like Kethane.

  5. Hey one thing I saw in the description that it can conflict with the Kethane.dll. Does that mean that Kethane will not work?

  8. The launchpad could use some more folding since its rather awkward looking to have four gigantic poles sticking out of your craft.
    Also the ore and metal container models aren’t loading properly on my mac and appear to be invisible.

  9. Metal bin, ore bin both only show up as 8 green lines in two rings outlining the top and bottom of a cylinder at 90 degree marks

  10. And the GameData\Extraplanetary Launchpads\Plugins\PluginData\Kethane and GameData\Extraplanetary Launchpads\Plugins\PluginData\MMI_Kethane folders are empty, there is however a MMI_Kethane.dll in GameData which doesn’t seem right…

    1- bins are just a square of green lines
    2- try to add kethane mod
    3- next relase you can close totaly the lunch pod, not only two arms
    4- i think if the models are better you more people will use this great mod
    5-how i can use dinamyte :) ?

    anyway really good mod, i waited a lot to see a mod like this!

  13. If you want some feature to be added to KSP Mod Manager, just make a great mod that’s going to be really popular, but that can’t be installed without that feature. For example if you want to be able to install just some files from a mod, you can make your mod incompatible with default kethane.dll. ;-)

  16. I have a tiny problem. Kethane is still mineable, however all planets and moons seem to have disappeared and my farms rate is now below 5 fps

    @Christian Gerefalk: You must install Kethane Pack first:

    ..and then (as far as I understand) you must copy MMI_Kethane.dll to …/Kethane/Plugins folder.

    @Daniel Lindsay it will (hopefully) work if you do what I said above. It seems to work for me =)

    Also.. I don’t understand where (and how) to mine ore. My drill is not animated too (may be I still installed it incorrectly)

  24. Need a guide for this. I landed this on Mun, and after decoupling with the lander it no longer worked, (became lander debris).

    Maybe needs to be stronger?

  25. I installed the mod, but when i place a launch pad and use it, it says I don’t have the required parts. It’s still on debug true, and if I change the debug to false, nothing loads. Any help please?

I was so happy when i downloaded this but instantly disappointed as i found you can’t orbit any of these without hacking really you should of made them very compact with lots of folding so the pieces could be 2.5m parts that fold out lots then balanced it by making them really dense i’m so devastated that the only launchpad mods are this and ones are just addons to this oh well hopefully someone will make a good launchpad you can transport and land without save editing or cheat using

  33. The vehicle load used to work but it does not work all of a sudden…I tried the Timtower’s link and tried new one. It just does not load anymore all of a sudden. So I downloaded this one. The game works fine but I cannot get the ore system out of it….
