  4. Could anyone tell me: which part of the .cfg file for Ion Engines makes them go faster? Or am I that dumb, and they don’t work AT ALL in atmosphere?

  5. i have used em on a craft i just build, but when its almost out of the atmosphere 2nd or 3rd layer.. the engine gets pulled off the ship, tryed attaching it to other parts as well, same thing.. bug ?… other than that, great engines :P

  7. @MoffKalast lets say I want to make its thrust equal 100, I will find the line under the heading MODULE

    maxThrust = 0.5

    0.5 means a thurst of 50, so changing it to say 1 will list its max thrust in-game as 100, so since I want this, I will edit this line to say: maxThrust = 1

    WARNING!!!!1 Do NOT change the line that says minThrust = 0 this is important!!!!!

  9. maxThrust = 0.5 means a thrust of 0.5. Yes it really does take 120 stock ion engines to get one NERVA worth of thrust.

    @Destiny Player the ion engines do work in the atmosphere, their thrust is just really low.

    Keep in mind that editing the thrust will also increase its fuel and electricity consumption, so you’ll probably want to reduce those too.

  11. Ive edited stock ion engine, so when you will put Parts folder together there will be ask for “overwrite” this stock folder.

  18. I spent 3 evenings designing a somewhat large 8 medium ion engine ship with a heavy lander on top of it, and a ridiculous ascent stage to get it all into orbit, only to discover that the engines are incredibly weak, way too weak even for ion engines.
    If i used the same lift power, i could lift a conventional ship with atleast 3x as much delta V

  19. Could you rename the parts files folder to IEP_xxxxxxx ? Just to make it easier to add and remove and to have the parts together in the VAB/SPH.

  20. Would someone be able to clarify what it means by “replace the stock folder” ? I placed all files within “Parts” into the KSP “Parts” folder and they aren’t showing up in the assembly building. :(

  21. There isnt any “replace the stock folder” just delete previous version parts. Now parts contain prefix IEP_ so you have to delete all parts with the same name as in the pack but without IEP_ in the beginning. Also you dont need any plugin for this so be sure that you placed IEP_ files in Parts folder (sometimes you can place whole Parts folder inside Parts folder :D it happened to me once)

  24. Um I’m not sure how to say this without sounding like a jerk, which I don’t mean to be I just want to help improve the quality of the mod because I love the idea. First when you scale up a fuel tank the capacity should multiply by 8 (three dimensions each x2) the dry mass should probably also be x8 to keep it balanced. I don’t know the physics for engines and battery packs but I usually think a x4 -x6 thrust / capacity would be reasonable. Second you should change the part descriptions too as it really shows that you put effort and character into the mod. Re-textures would also be awesome but I understand if that is beyond your scope. (It’s beyond mine)

  27. I love this pack. But the XXl gigantic solar panels have this problem, when you select and fly a craft at the tracking station, the solar panels will start to shake off the craft.

  31. Problem is that there’s no PART { .. } -tag in part.cfg-file. You can just check from squad parts that you need PART { at the beginning of file and then ad } at the end. That fixed mod for me, I also put “correct” substructure to GameData-folder (similar as squad parts).

  32. Yeah, fixed that. Somehow they were working for me as fine as before so i didn’t noticed it will be necessary.

    Now it is fixed, just delete old IEP files from KSP/Parts, and put these to KSP/GameData folder

  37. I can make a solar-powered glider that uses the default 4x worse ion engines that can lift off. I don’t see how you could have problems with an engine that’s 4x as powerful.

  38. Seems like the 900 charge battery doesn’t really stack. It actually just floats on top of whatever I try to stack it on. Is this a known bug?

    Also, where are the solar panels located? I have added them but I don’t see them within utilities.

  39. The Z-1000 does not stack also. The connectors should be adjusted to avoid the large gap between the stacked components.

    Otherwise a really nice mod.

  40. to fix the Z-1000 just chage the part.cfg in GameData\IonHybridElectricPack\Parts\IEP_batteryBank_large

    and change the lines

    node_stack_top = 0.0, 0.110, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.0
    node_stack_bottom = 0.0, -0.110, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.0

    then it stacks like a charm :)

  41. Just curious, Is there a reason that the hybrids need both to work, instead of one over other. It would be kinda neat to go regular ion once your liquid fuel is out at a reduction in thrust and increase in electricity consumption.

  44. Thanks for this nice mod. These engines are my favorite choices for inter-planar lifters and heavy probes!

    Would it be possible to have the liquid fuel on the hybrid ones work as somekind of ‘turbo’ mode? Most of the time I dont need the extra power, so the ability to turn it on/of would increase the radius on my spacecraft a lot. Ive seen mods where you could switch rocket mode on with jet engines so perhaps it works on these too?

    eg: you use the hybrid engine as a normal ion engine and when you have to land a capsule on de mun or another low gravity surface you use the liquid turbo mode to be able to slow down enough.

  53. Are we supposed to be able to switch fuel types on the hybrids? I loaded my ship with buttloads of electricity and xenon for those and some liquid fuel for my Mainsail (for breaking out of atmo), but when I fire the hybrids, they only suck down the liquid fuel and don’t touch the power/xenon……… Am I missing something? And I haven’t got an Ion into orbit yet…. are they any good for interplanetary travel?

  55. The HF-1000 and HF-2500 Hybrid engines show fuel sources as Liquid fuel or Xenon/Electric, but I can only get them to function on liquid fuel.

  56. Parts work very well. . I don’t really like the aesthetic as i prefer a more industrial/functional look as opposed to the organic/curvy lines these parts, that just my opinion.

  58. I am occasionally having issues with some of the parts not sticking, and causing failures at launch. Mainly with the x30 xenon radial tank dislodging at launch causing an explosive disaster. And also the big HF-2500 main engine will fall off on ignition if struts are not used. These problems are not that big a dial, and are easily fixed using struts. Though having to use struts on the x30′s messes up there awesomeness.

  62. Worked for me in 0.23 but as best I remember I had to install it a couple times before it ever worked.

    I let it go though. I just don’t see the point. The engines weigh a crap ton, require several supporting component to work (they aren’t light either) and don’t provide nearly enough thrust or efficiency to justify either the weight or the increased parts count.

    The parts themselves are well-designed and beautiful but like a few other mods here they’re just terribly impractical to use.
