[0.18.2] MPSS Nautilus 1.2 + FLY Orbital tug 1.0

The MPSS, or Nautilus Project, is designed as an interplanetary transfer vehicle for the HOME 3m modules.
It is recommended to launch the MPSS separately then dock the HOME modules once in orbit.

The FLY is a highly maneuverable space tugboat designed to move spaceborne cargo easily and efficiently.

Overview

The MPSS, or Nautilus Project, is designed as an interplanetary transfer vehicle for the HOME 3m modules.
It is recommended to launch the MPSS separately then dock the HOME modules once in orbit.

*Remember, once you deploy the living ring in can not be retracted, so wait uptil you are in orbit.
*The pod does not currently feature flight instrumentation. We may add that in the future.
*The MPSS engine can get you just about anywhere in the star system if you use our Jool V fuel tank, there is no MPSS fuel tank included.

****NODE Attache issue: Due to game limitations, you will not be able to connect parts to the side-facing nodes of the cargo trusses until you first attach either end node.
This is a game bug, not a bug with the MPSS. It is present in all multi-axes node parts.

Assembly is designed to be: pod with attached solar – living area(ring) – 1-3 cargo/docking struts (add stock docking ports) – fuel tank – engine.
You may, of course, add ASAS, SAS, RCS, or other components as desired.

Suggested additional components are an RTG, RCS and thrusters, and an ASAS (or mechjeb).

*Be careful when accelerating and during braking burns, docked modules WILL wobble due to problems with the stock docking ports.
If you’ve ever used the docking ports, you already understand the issue, if you haven’t, you soon will understand. ;)

Animation Features:

Nav strobe on pod
Animated EVA hatch
Animated inflatible living area
Animated living area rotation.

The FLY is a highly maneuverable space tugboat designed to move spaceborne cargo easily and efficiently.
Equipped with a small integral RCS tank, a large battery, work lights, cameras, and a powerful reaction wheel system, the FLY also can be equipped with optional extendable RCS thrusters than may be extended around the sides of 2m and 3m cargo to facilitate lateral movement.

Installation

To install, copy the included directories into your KSP install directory.

How to use

*Remember, once you deploy the living ring in can not be retracted, so wait uptil you are in orbit. *The pod does not currently feature flight instrumentation. We may add that in the future. *The MPSS engine can get you just about anywhere in the star system if you use our Jool V fuel tank, there is no MPSS fuel tank included. --------------- Flying the FLY: --------------- The strong reaction mass system allows for easy gross maneuvering. For precision tasks it is recommended to extend the RCS thrusters forward around the docked cargo. Properly placed RCS thrusters at the rear balancing the forward deployed RCS, will allow for precise traversing of X and Z axes without rotation around the center of mass, greatly facilitating docking maneuvers. ------- Cameras ------- The FLY is equipped with a rear view camera accessible by clicking the right side instrument panel. Use "C" to go back to the forward cockpit view. ----- Parts ----- FLY commandpod - 250 units of RCS fuel, 500 units of battery, plus 20-power reaction wheels allow this 2m pod to control heavy loads, but it's likely you'll still need a few extra RCS tanks for longer missions. A rear-facing camera is accessible by clicking on the right-rear control panel (internal view) Use "C" to exit to the main view. Extendable RCS - Designed to be extended forward (and laterally if load is more than stock 2 meters width) to allow better control of lateral translation and avoiding rotation around CoM, when used in combination with well-placed rear RCS thrusters. These thrusters are more efficient than stock RCS in vacuum but very inefficient in atmosphere. Right click on the part to see the GUI control menu. If you understand the problem, you will love this part. If you don't understand, take the time to figure it out yourself and don't spam the forum with questions.

  3. How do you suppose I get this airborne? It has no fuel deposits!

  4. @Zach, try the Jool V. Or dock it in orbit :P

  5. I’m having issues with this. It seems to be immovable….

  6. Hey, i have a stupid question. Whenever i launch this pretty thing into orbit and try to go EVA, the game doesn’t allow me to because the “hatch is blocked”, even if the large door labeled “airlock” is completely clear of components. what am i doing wrong?

    Warchief Williams January 18, 2013
  7. You have to right click on the hatch from the outside and select “open hatch” first. Or you could probably add it as a custom action.

  8. Ah, thanks

  12. Fantastic. Probably one of the best mods ever. The only problem is that the pods interior is upsidedown. Other than that this is flawless. Props to BobCat.

  13. Is This Going To Be Updated To 0.19.1.54?
And Could You Make The Living Ring Be Able To Contract, But It Would Take about 3 Minutes, And All Crew/Parts HAVE To BE Closed, Or It Wont Close… That Might Be a Good Idea, And You Could Make More Types Of Living Rings, Different Sizes, And Mabye You Can Think Of The Others… Good Luck.. I Want To Download This. But I Dont Know If It Is Able To Be Ran On 0.19.1.54… :)

  14. Is the ring unable to be expanded until its in space? clicking the action doesn’t expand it for me.

    gracae86 April 24, 2013
  15. @Timcoe – usable with 0.19.

Amazing work BobCat, keep up the great work!

    GhostChaser April 28, 2013
  16. The light on the command pod which I assume is the strobe is always on for me and in several videos I have seen. I would love a fix for this as the light is extremely bright and annoying. As usual though, amazing work.

  17. Please update for .20! I love this mod

  18. Definitely Needs an update for 0.20 Since for some reason now i can’t get the rings to extend properly. not sure if is interfererence from mechjeb 2 or what… but i miss having the rotating ring… T_T;;

    Lissa MCOwens June 21, 2013
  19. You can get the rings to extend in 2.0 just go through the parts cfg. folders and put PART at the top then press enter and put { at below PART, then put } at the bottom of the whole config folder

  20. Thanks Stanford Burley! The poster needs to update, he hasn’t since version 18 which was like a year ago! D:<

  21. I’m having trouble with trying to launch this into space, whenever i hit 6Km my engines explode and they all disconnect at once. Ive tried this with several different versions so i know its not a construction problem.
Does anyone have a clue what may be the problem?

    Hamish August 30, 2013
  22. So i finally got this thing into orbit, but whenever i try to rendevous using mechjeb it just disappears. Like it literally just vanishes. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hamish August 30, 2013
  23. Come on please update i need the parts for my space station!

Koen de Vries September 6, 2013
  24. Could we get an update on this please? Did like the mod back when it was working properly, and would love to use it again.

    Udo Gradl September 18, 2013
  25. Works for me on 0.20.1, but the config is wierd – just change the “//crewcapacity = 6″ to “crewcapacity = 6″ and it works fine.

    Jackson Pacchiana October 15, 2013
  26. There isn’t a .craft file included

    Hieywiey December 27, 2013
  27. UPDATE THIS!
